Don't Be Koi
The inspiration for this painting was the koi pond at SelbyGardens in Sarasota, Florida. Although her marine biologist husband assures Grace that one koi is eating the algae off of the other, she prefers to believe that the male koi is kissing the back of the female who is being coy.
Grace’s time spent in China is reflected in this painting. The Chinese characters say, “Don’t Be Koi.”

Shanti - Peace
The white stone Buddha overhanging the koi pond at Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, appears to be levitating. Contemplating his reflection in the pond among the sounds of the swaying bamboo is the perfect way to escape the pressures of life, to meditate and find shanti - peace.

Pengyou - Friends
The furniture and ceramics in this painting were brought home when the McKees returned from living in China. The snuff bottle atop the dragon table is etched with two ladies, a unique theme. It was a birthday gift from Grace’s best friend from New Zealand.

Bromeliad - Potted
This bromeliad at Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, was “potted” in the painting. Bromeliads have roots, but get most of their sustenance from water captured in their leaves. Look closely to see its resident bug who is enjoying his beautiful home.
